Tennis Ayrshire has netted an ace £1,000 donation after being named as a Community Champion by housebuilder Persimmon West Scotland.

The organisation is comprised of clubs in Ayr, Coylton, Irvine, Kilmarnock, Kilmaurs, Largs, Prestwick, Stewarton, Troon and West Kilbride, as well as one facility in Stevenston.

The organisation is the representative body for tennis clubs within the Ayrshire District and organises a variety of competitions and coaching sessions.

The funds from Persimmon will be used to purchase new equipment for junior tennis players in Ayrshire, ranging from five to 18 years old.

The group received the £1,000 donation through Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative, which supports charities and good causes in the areas the company operates in.

The programme has seen more than £360,000 donated across Scotland in the last five years.

Elaine Semple, Welfare Officer at Tennis Ayrshire, said: “We are delighted to be a benefactor of such a generous donation.

“Juniors from the three pan-Ayrshire authorities will benefit from more much-needed equipment plus additional coaching programmes.”

Chris Logan, Persimmon West Scotland Managing Director, said: “We’re delighted to support Tennis Ayrshire with this donation, which we hope will make a real difference and help encourage more people into the sport.

“We want to leave a positive legacy in the areas we operate in and I hope the funding to purchase new equipment will ensure these young tennis players can continue to develop their skills.”
