Storms rage along North Ayrshire coast

THE North Ayrshire Coast took a pounding over the New Year break as the weather did its worst, with 25-foot waves breaching local roads and 100mph winds causing severe damage to several properties.
West Kilbride was cut off for a few hours on a Hogmanay – dubbed `Hell's Bells` by TV news – as an excessively high tide made the A78 impassable.
And up the road in Skelmorlie there was chaos as a 30-square-foot section of roofs was blown off a block of flats on to the road.
