A Town Without Pubs?
Ardrossan could soon find itself a town with no pubs.
That's the bleak scenario suggested by publicans, who say the proposed licence fee rise from £172 to £2000 in the autumn of 2009 could finish them off.
With other measures also being demanded by licensing bosses, the figure could rise to £5000 annually, say 'mine hosts'.
With pubs still reeling from the smoking ban and customers opting to buy cheap alcohol from supermarkets, they find themselves under increasing pressures to survive.
