MEN LOCKED UP FOR M.O.D. CASH STING
KILWINNING man Jimmy McLauchlan has been jailed for three and a half years for conning hundreds of thousands of pounds from the MOD.
The 58-year-old, of Almswall Road, masterminded a con using fake clock in cards, while his site manager Robert Burns, of Ardrossan, helped the swindle run smoothly.
Burns, 38, of Whistlers Court, Ardrossan was jailed for eighteen months for his part in the scam, which netted £424,923.92.
They were part of a scheme devised by crooked workers from McLaughlan's Scaffolding and Jordan Engineering, who set out to milk thousands in unpaid working hours from 'ghost' employees during the multi million pound Trident upgrade at the Royal Dockyard in Devonport.
A third employee from Plymouth was also jailed for a year after all three were convicted of conspiracy to defraud the Secretary of State for Defence between January 1 2001 and March 31 2002.
McLaughlan had admitted the charge, but Burns and the third accused were convicted after a nine week trial at Southwark Crown Court.
