SEVERAL homes, businesses and the local police station have been left with a major clean up operation - after heavy rain and flooding in Kilbrinie.

The clean up is now well underway after torrential rain caused the Glengarnock River to burst its banks.

At the height of the alert more than 30 fightfighters from across North Ayrshire attended the devasting scenes and calls from Kilbirnie and the Glengarnock area were reporting rising waters.

Local resident Lee Winyard lives in one of the worst affected parts of Kilbirnie, Muirend Street and said: "We woke up this morning about nine o'clock to find the whole street completely flooded.

"It is just devastating that something like this has happened."

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said in some parts the water had been more than one metre deep.

A FULL REPORT ON THIS MAJOR INCIDENT WILL BE IN THE FORTHCOMING EDITION OF THE ARDROSSAN & SALTCOATS HERALD.
