RESIDENTS at several farms near Lochwinnoch had to be evacuated on Monday amid fears that a reservoir could burst and flood their homes.

Seven farms dotted along the Maich Fishery, near Ladyland Castle were evacuated at 9am on Monday and up to 20 homes were under threat of being moved after heavy rain fell over the weekend.

Environment chiefs issued a warning that the integrity of the dam was at risk, and roads running near the reservoir were closed because of the potential hazard of flooding.
