WEST Kilbride was hit by flooding after torrential rain spread across the country on Thursday.

The downpour caused serious disruption to road and rail networks, and three burns which burst their banks flooded people's property.

Sue Muir of Ladybog Cottage on the outskirts of the village said: "There was a whole river running through my garden. The water came from up in the hills, filled the ditch in front of my house and then overflowed.

"If I hadn't had builders in at the time my whole house would have been flooded too."

Sue, who was away at the time and was alerted by a relative, said: "I was completely hysterical when I got the phone call. It happened four years ago but was much worse, and I was five months pregnant at the time.

"Something needs to be done."
