ARDROSSAN Community Council have condemned North Ayrshire Council for their failure to keep the streets of the town weed-free.

With the ongoing regeneration of Ardrossan and the influx of visitors during the summer, the community council believe that the weeds are lowering the tone of the town.

Chairman Kenny Macdougall said: "It's a shame to see that we cannot keep our streets free from high-growing weeds.

"Ardrossan has been earmarked for regeneration, yet weeds, some of them two feet high, make some streets look derelict."

John Currie, head of environment and related services at NAC, said: "This year, weed control on paths and pavements in North Ayrshire has not been as successful as we would have wished.

"Prioritised areas will be sprayed when the weather permits."
