SALTCOATS residents posed strong opposition to the closure of the Post Office in Gladstone Road when they packed a public meeting in the town hall on Monday night.

As we reported a month ago, plans are afoot to axe both the Gladstone Road PO and the one in Stevenston's Station Road. Under the current proposals, they would be among 13 Ayrshire premises closed under plans to restructure the national network.

Local people are concerned about the distance elderly and disabled folk will have to travel to make alternative arrangements if the facilities go.
