ONE of Scotland’s most successful athletes was in Saltcoats yesterday to take pupils through their paces.
Commonwealth Games medalist Lee McConnell popped into St Matthew’s Academy to take 33 lucky schoolkids through a special training routine. The 400 metre sprinter and hurdler was there after third year pupil Racheal Slater, of West Kilbride, won a Scotland-wide competition for the Olympian to take the class at her school.
After the training Lee McConnell told the Herald: “I enjoyed it and I think the children did as well."
