KILBIRNIE COME CLOSE
By Sports desk
Cumnock 1 - Kilbirnie 0
An early goal in the sixth minute should have settled the home side, when Chris McGowan headed a David McInally corner low into the bottom corner. But the much-changed line-up failed to capitalise on the early advantage.
Only some superb goalkeeping by Graham Potter, who kept out the visitors on no fewer than four separate occasions in the first-half, kept the home side ahead. And the home side’s luck was really in as the second-half kicked off, as Kilbirnie continued to waste chance after chance.
Kilbirnie must surely have regretted all those goalscoring opportunities as an understrength Nock side held on for the win.
