A LAST GASP goal from striker Gary McGrath helped the Westenders edge out their North Ayrshire rivals to chalk up their third win out of six and stay firmly in the promotion hunt.
Irvine started well and had a cuople of chances. Jim "Tiger" McNally was left one-on-one with the keeper but shot past a post in 12 minutes.
Saltcoats scored against the run of play in 17 minutes when a driven corner-kick was volleyed home Bryan Taggart.
