BEITH's recently mounting hopes of a serious title challenge were brought crashing back to earth with a defeat at Petershill that means the Springburn club leapfrog them in the table.

The Bellsdale Park men's record against Petershill in recent years is terrible with seven straight defeats prior to this encounter but their positive start to the season and last week's win over pre-season title favourites Meadow meant fans travelled with hig hopes of halting the run.

In the opening minutes Peasie's striker Stevie Dallas and Beith sweeper Derek McCulloch were booked by referee Clancy after they clashed following a late challenge by the forward.
