On your marks and get set for the latest flagship Wii release. Mario Kart hits the shops this weekend, and it's better than ever before.

Nintendo's big name racer has been through many incarnations over the years, but whether you've played it on the SNES, the DS, or never even picked it up before there is something here that will leave you grinning with glee.

The big sell is that it comes with a Wii steering wheel. Now while you can play the game without the Wheel - either by using the remote side on or using a standard Gamecube style controller - the actual joyous fun of using a steering wheel brings about a giddy kind of gaming joy. You might think it's just a chunk of plastic, but it brings a whole new level to the game.

With 16 completely new courses and 16 of the best of the previous Kart games, there's plenty to keep you and your new toy busy, even before you factor in that you can now play either riding a kart or a motorbike for the first time. There are a mind-boggling array of power ups and bonuses to collect meaning at times you're speeding along like you're playing Sonic the Hedgehog - this is an adrenaline fuelled feast of fast frenetic fun.

With the requisite music you'll be humming for weeks, and a plethora of unlockable goodies to measure your progress by, you'll be enjoying this game solo as well as with friends - although as ever multiplayer is king with Mario Kart.

You can play two, three or four player multiscreened or online with up to two players per machine. The game really comes into its own if you're WiFi enabled as you can compete with up to 11 other drivers at a time - and you can use your Mii to show the world what you look like - assuming they're not eating your dust as you zoom past them.
