THIS photo is recognisable as Dockhead Street in Saltcoats, but the style of clothes and the delivery van outside Buttercup Dairies instantly dates it.
It was in fact taken in 1919 just a year after the end of the bloody conflict of what they called at the time ‘The Great War’.
Were the driver of the van – who looks like he has just started the vehicle up using the crank handle – or the smart gentleman in the bower hat, survivors of that war?
