WINTON Primary School in Ardrossan is consulting with parents and carers of pupils to see if they want to change to a more modern uniform style.

The distinctive brown and yellow colours are synonymous with the school and pupils are instantly recognisable in the Ardrossan area.

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “The chair of the Parent Council of Winton Primary has sent a letter and questionnaire to all parents of children attending the school.

"The questionnaire asks for views on retaining or changing the colours used in the school uniform.

“The deadline for completed forms is April 2.

"After that the Parent Council will be phoning any parent who did not respond to the questionnaire to ensure the views of all parents are captured.

“It is the intention of the Parent Council to gather the views of children and staff for inclusion in the findings of the study.

"Schools do from time to time review the uniform policy and best practice is to involve parents.” One parent who doesn’t welcome the change said: “The school dates from 1899 using this colour scheme which I consider traditional.

"My son attends this school and I am most proud of the school colours and what it represents.

“They say the uniform is expensive and hard for families to get, but many supermarkets stock these colours now also online stores.

"I feel the school should have an order service available.

"I don’t want the school to lose its identity that most Ardrossan people associate Winton Primary with.” Are you a parent, carer or former pupil of Winton Primary?
