THE Royal Voluntary Service has organised a flyover for their super Goatfell fundraiser at the end of this month – and you can be part of it.

They have teamed up with a charity called the SkyLab who will deliver a special Commonwealth baton in an ex RAF jet to the willing volunteers.

The Kilmarnock-based group, who use the jet to guide and inspire young people into science, technology, engineering, and maths will land with their special package at Prestwick airport, who have kindly allowed a special set of workshops to take place in the terminal building.

Here the baton will get exchanged between young and old and there may even be a very special person helping out too.

Ahead of the event, the RVS are reminding any willing volunteers out there that it is not too late to join in the Goatfell Expedition on May 31, their joint charity event with the Ayrshire Hospice.

As part of the day, the RVS’ own Commonwealth baton will be brought up to the top and then will be passed all the way down, with photo opportunities for a keepsake.

There will also be other fun things happening on the day – the world’s highest busk by Eddy Gemmell, singing his father’s song – “the man wae nae legs” – and Margaret Weir, line dancing her way to another record breaker.

If you wish to attend please call in to the RVS office in the Michael Lynch Centre in Ardrossan where you can pick up registration and sponsor sheets or just get more information on the events.
