WINTON Primary School will not be changing their uniform any time in the near future after a questionnaire was issued to parents and carers of current school pupils.

We reported at the start of April that the process was underway after the Chair of the Parent Council at the school sent a letter and questionnaire to ask whether or not they would like to see new colours used within the well recognised uniform.

Some parents didn’t think this would be the right thing to do and now North Ayrshire Council has confirmed that there will be no change.

A spokesperson said: “A majority of parents agreed to retain the current school uniform.” But one parent is still unhappy as the school has issued guidelines in terms of certain items of uniform.

The parent said: “On the whole, I think the parents are pleased with the outcome but we were issued with a newsletter with regards to uniform that states that the children must wear brown shoes and gold shirts.

"These two items are the most costly of all the uniform and very limited in availabilty.” Glencairn Primary in Stevenston has a very similar uniform and their uniform policy states that pupils can wear yellow (gold) or white and they also have the choice of black or brown shoes.

The parent added: “I feel Glencairn’s approach of allowing brown or black shoes and gold or white shirts is a more reasonable one.

"This would substantially reduce the cost for families in financial hardship.” Are you a parent or carer of a child at Winton Primary?
