ST ANDREWS Church in Ardrossan is welcoming the public inside this weekend as part of Doors Open Day Ayrshire.

The scheme is a Council of Europe initiative that will see 50 countries open up public buildings to heighten local awareness of their heritage.

St Andrews has – with the assistance of the Heritage Lottery Fund – been carrying out renovations to the listed building which has been clad in scaffolding since June.

The roof has been renovated and the stained glass has been removed to be restored elsewhere.

This Saturday (September 6) entry to the church will be possible even though the work is not completed and a stone mason will be on site to demonstrate his skills.

The church will also be holding a car boot sale on the day.

Information on people named in remembrance plaques from both the First and Second World Wwars will be available.

The church is attempting to collect photographs of these people.

The church will be open on Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from 1-4pm.
