A SALTCOATS man has been banned from driving after being caught over the limit near to his home last month.
Stanley John Skelton, who is 64 and lives in The Braes, was out for lunch with a former work colleague back on September 14 when police received an anonymous phone call about a man drink driving.
Police attended at Skelton’s house and watched him parking across from his home on a public road.
Officers spoke to him and he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
He was subject to a breath test before being taken to Saltcoats Police Office.
The court heard through Skelton’s lawyer that his client had received a phone call to say his mother was unwell and this is why he chose to drive.
He also had a job lined up but it required his client to be able to drive and this has since fallen through.
Sheriff Foran disqualified Skelton for a period of two years for his reading of 71mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath which is more than double the legal limit of 35mg per 100ml.
Skelton was also fined £350 for the offence at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.
