‘THE train is now arriving at Ardrossan South Beach – the next stop is Cambuslang.’ This is the confusing announcement Ardrossan-bound passengers have been hearing for weeks now, causing raised eyebrows and amusement.
But for one passenger who travels to Ardrossan Town on a daily basis, the novelty is beginning to wear off.
He said: “The first time I heard the announcement, it was quite funny and I assumed it must be a technical fault.
“The Ardrossan train carries a lot of passengers heading for Arran who come from outside the area so they might find it confusing or even unsettling.
“It must be an easy problem to fix so it’s a mystery to me why it has taken them so long to sort it out.” According to Wikipedia, Cambuslang is ‘a suburban town on the south-eastern outskirts of Glasgow’ while – as we know – Ardrossan is ‘a town on the North Ayrshire coast in south-western Scotland’.
A difficult confusion to make some might say – especially as the names are not even similar.
Scotrail say they aware of the issue, which is caused by a fault with the messaging database which makes the on-train announcements.
A spokeswoman added: “We are working to fix it as soon as possible.”
