THREE Towns pool ace Gemma Keenan has pocketed a second Ladies European Championship title in a row.

Gemma, manager of the Nonsuch Ladies in Saltcoats and Scotland Ladies B1 team, was competing at the prestigious European Blackball Association event in Bridlington in Yorkshire.

Gemma said: “It was a gruelling week.

"The team had struggled during the round robin stages but we knew if we won our last match against Wales, we would make it into the semi-finals so all the ladies dug deep and won a very difficult and tight match to secure our place.” England 1 were the next challenge and the team gave it their all despite having beaten the England ladies earlier in the week.

They won comfortably 11-6 to take them to the final against England 2.

Gemma added: “This match was always going to be difficult and it proved to be so.

“It was a nailbiter from start to finish – neck and neck all the way.

“It was amazing for the atmosphere which was electric with the entire team Scotland cheering us on.” The match went to the deciding frame which the Scottish ladies won with a killer finish from Jane Doig taking the final score to 11-10.

“After only one year of being the manager, we have won two European titles and been runner up in the Nations Cup so to say I’m very proud is an understatement.

“So on now to the next Nations Cup in Kilkenny in Ireland in September.” Other Nonsuch players competing at the tourmament were Scott Lynn from Stevenston who won the Seniors team event, beating England 13-9 in the final.

Jordan Templeton from Ardrossan helped take Scotland Men’s A team to a difficult semi final with England which they lost 13-7.

Graeme Sillars from Saltcoats also managed to make semi-final stage with Scotland Men’s B1 team but lost to Wales 17-14.
