THE Rotary Club of Ardrossan and Saltcoats have been helping to mark the completion of the Firth of Clyde Rotary Trail – a long distance footpath from the Mull of Galloway to Milngavie.

The route which joins up the Mull of Galloway Trail, the Ayrshire Coastal Path and the Clyde Coastal Path was created by Rotary clubs of Allander, Gourock, Stranraer and Ayr.

The final section will be officially opened by Sally Magnusson at a ceremony in Milngavie this Saturday.

Last Saturday, Rotary Club of Ardrossan and Saltcoats secretary Alex Blair and his grandson Daniel and George Dodds, took part in a relay to transport a commemorative plaque that will be mounted at the trail’s finish point.

Along the way, Rotarians have been raising money for Sally Magnusson’s charity Playlist for Life that uses music to help dementia sufferers.

Alex and Daniel met a group of walkers from Troon and Irvine Seagate clubs at Kilwinning Abbey.

From there Daniel carried the plaque to Ardrossan Marina where it was handed over to Alex Blair and George Dodds who then carried it along the trail to Portencross.

At Portencross, the plaque was passed on to Muir Austin of Ayr club on Sunday morning for the next stage into Largs.
