A KILWINNING man who lost his life in a car crash has been laid to rest.

Douglas Archer was killed last month when his Volkswagen Golf collided with another car on the A737 in Beith on Thursday, January 8.

The tragic 30-year-old, from Whitehirst Park, died at the scene, despite efforts to save him.

On Friday, hundreds of friends and family packed into the Abbey Church to say their final goodbyes.

His death has left his family, friends and colleagues shocked and devastated.

Douglas was a keen car enthusiast and a member of various car groups, including Cruise Ayrshire.

Greenock-based motoring group Auto-Tec performance is hosting a memorial event in his honour.

The original date for the service was March 15, but has since been changed to March 1st.

On the Auto-Tec Performance Facebook page they say: “We lost a close friend of ours Douglas Archer. One of the team at ATP.

“For all that had the pleasure of meeting him it would be clear to see his love for cars and his shows.

"We are going to hold a event day at Auto-Tec Performance. We would like to invite all who knew this great guy to come along.

“All money raised on the day will go to any charity of the family’s choice.” Douglas was well known and well loved throughout the Ayrshire community, and as well as his love for cars, was also a keen footballer, playing for Dirrans Athletic last season.

The team held a minute’s silence for him at a recent Scottish Cup tie against St Joseph’s.

The Douglas Archer Memorial Event event will take place on March 1 at Auto-Tec in Greenock.
