ARDROSSAN Castle will have it’s first ever booklet - with its launch this weekend.

The booklet, which has been produced thanks to the hard work of members of the Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society, will be on sale after almost two years of production.

Pat Breen from the Society said that it describes the history of the castle, its grounds, events, including the meeting of the Privy Council back in 1546, and the myths and legends which surround one of North Ayrshire’s most iconic buildings.

Production of the booklet was one of the main aims of the society when it was founded back in 2012 and the launch has been on the minds of the members for a number of months.

Taking place in Garfield’s Tapas and Wine Bar in Princes Street, Ardrossan on Friday evening from 5pm, members of the society and guests will be on hand to discuss anything castle related.

Everyone is welcome to attend and copies of the booklet will be on sale for just £2.50. The society would like to thank Dr Patrick Murray, George McGrattan, Michael McCulloch, Dr David Caldwell and Dr Amanda Simpson for their hard work in getting the booklet to print.

From Saturday, November 14, the booklet will be on sale in Garfield’s, Cassandra’s, Esso Garage, Nisa Stores and Ardrossan Library and in Saltcoats at Stark’s Newsagents, Studio Cobblers, the Heritage Centre and in the Antiques Shop in Countess Street.

Since their inception, the ACHS have carried out a number of events including an archaeological dig, a GPRS survey of the castle and the grounds, sent out educational packs to the local schools and had the stonework and masonry at the castle restored and made safe. Now that the booklet has been produced the society will be looking at more signage, lighting a heritage centre and an event next June to commemorate the visit of the Privy Council.
