AN ACTRESS from the Garnock Valley is aiming to raise money for a new short film, inspired by a mystery she came across when recovering from a serious illness.

Ruth Tapp is crowdfunding to make a short film inspired by the Royal Mail mystery she encountered while recovering earlier this year.

While confined to her house after major chest surgery, the actress found herself confronted with a post-related puzzle – out of the blue one morning lots of letters arrived for a ‘Mr Eduardo Munez’ – a person unknown to Ruth or any of her housemates.

Over the course of several weeks, every day, more and more mail arrived for this Mr Munez and did not appear to be coming from the same sender.

This left Ruth with a burning question; who is Eduardo Munez? Using this mystery as her inspiration, she wrote Eduardo Munez, a darkly humorous short film about the wrong mail.

Four months later and now with a producer and an award-winning director on board, Ruth has just 31 days to raise the £7,500 needed to get the film made. “It’s quite a challenge we’ve set ourselves.” admits Ruth. “I wrote the script as a sort of creative outlet while I was ill. It was my version of therapy. I didn’t even think about it actually being made at first, but once I’d shown it to the producer and director, it became clear they really wanted to film it and I was delighted. We are asking people to join us and help us make it happen.”

Along with raising the funds needed to make the film, Ruth, from Kilbirnie, is also hoping to solve the mystery of Eduardo Munez’s identity, she added: “I’d love to find the real Eduardo Munez. I’d love to meet him.

“I’m hoping that during the campaign, he might read a tweet or a Facebook post and get in touch. I really want to say thank you to him for inspiring the film.”

Ruth’s credits include How Not To Live Your Life for the BBC and national theatre tours of Whisky Galore and Lilies on the Land. She is working on this project with producer Joseph Teague and the award-winning director Laurel Parker of Mobley Street Productions.

Their Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign runs until December 5.
