A LOCAL businessman has this week hit out at the rubbish which shows no signs of shifting around his Stevenston base.

Alec Frew, of Hugh K Frew and Sons plumbers, has branded the mess dumped next to his Fullarton Place store an ‘eyesore’ and wants something done about it.

There have already been vermin problems in the area.

But North Ayrshire Council insists there is a dispute over how the rubbish came to be on the site - and for now it remains there.

Alec said: “There’s bins in the lane, couches and dog mess.

“There’s no talking to anyone about it.

“Customers will take one look and turn away, it’s a just a joke.”

The business, which has been based in the same building since the late 1980’s, say they have only had these issues over the past couple of months and hope that they can be sorted despite the problems.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson told the Herald: “This location was checked by our Streetscene Officers on Monday, November 2.

“The entrance lane was found to be clear of waste, however, there was a substantial amount of dumped rubbish discovered in the back yard which appears to be dumped there by others.

“As this is a privately owned property, it is the owners’ and residents’ responsibility to dispose of waste from this area.

“A North Ayrshire Council Streetscene Officer has subsequently visited the area and there is a dispute over ownership of the rubbish.

“This is currently being investigated and checked.

“Additionally, our Environmental Health Team has

provided treatment to two properties in the area as a result of vermin complaints.

“We are advising those individuals who are responsible to dispose of the waste in order to stamp out the risk of vermin.”
