Ardrossan Sea Cadets have been busy raising awareness as part of Anti-Bullying Week.

The cadets have taken part in discussions, role play, crafts and other activities for the national event which was held between November 16 – 20.

Chief Petty Officer John Macdonald, the head instructor at Ardrossan Sea Cadets, said that the event has been a huge success for the cadets.

He said: “It’s very important to the cadets because at the end of the day we have bullying in lots of places. It does happen.”

Petty Officer Nadia Cook of Ardrossan Sea Cadets organised two activity evenings for the awareness campaign.

The first activity event took place last week and the other is planned for this Friday.

John said: “We were shown some DVDs of short films about all the different kinds of bullying.

“The cadets also did some role playing where they had to guess what kind of bullying was taking place – is it name calling, cyber-bullying or is it physical violence?

“We had crafts as well. The colour of bullying awareness is blue so the cadets did lots of painting with that.

“There was so much feedback from both sides of people – those who had been bullied and those who had been bullies in the past and regretted it. It was really good and the young people were quite willing to talk about it, which was great.

“This is the first time we’ve taken part in Anti-Bullying Week and it’s been really positive
