A STEVENSTON biker caught speeding has dodged a driving ban.

David Seggie, of the town’s Muir Drive, drove at 104mph in a 70mph zone at the bypass near Sorbie Road on June 16 last year.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard last week how Seggie, 55, was driving his motorbike on the A78 trunk road at dusk time.

It was reported that only moderate traffic occupied the road and visibility was good.

But the self-employed roofer was caught out by police who were monitoring the speed of motorists from a bridge above the road.

Seggie pled guilty to the offence when he appeared at court last week.

Defence solicitor Graeme Cunningham revealed to presiding Sheriff Shirley Foran that his client had a clean driving record.

Mr Cunningham said Seggie had been out visiting friends following a recent death of another friend.

According to Mr Cunningham, thinking about his deceased friend is what caused his high speed on the road.

The lawyer added that Seggie underestimated the power of the motorbike which caused his lapse in concentration.

Mr Cunningham praised the police for the report they filed on Seggie stating officers weren’t “over egging it” and said the motorbike was in good road condition.

Sheriff Foran stepped away from banning Seggie instead fining him £300 and imposing nine penalty points.
