POTENTIAL volunteers for Irvine’s new mental health facility are being invited to a special drop-in event.

The multi-million pound Woodland View is on the lookout for new volunteers ahead of its opening at Ayrshire Central Hospital in the spring.

As the Herald previously reported, volunteers are particularly sought for the new shop and welcome desk.

A special drop-in event will be held at Ayrshire Central’s training centre on Friday, February 5 from 2pm until 4pm for any would-be volunteers.

No previous experience for the roles is required as staff will work alongside volunteers to ensure they receive the appropriate training and support.

Jessie Mitchell, co-chair of Woodland View Volunteer group, said: “We have received an outstanding response to our appeal so far. However, we do need more people to sign up.

“We’ve organised a drop-in event so that people can pop in and speak to someone face-to-face or pick up some literature, all without any commitment.

“Volunteering is a fantastic way for you to get involved in your local community. People can learn new skills which can help enhance their future employment opportunities. It’s also a great way to meet new people and make new friends.

“We would encourage anyone aged 16 and over to come along to this event in Irvine or give us a call. We would love to hear from you.”
