THE Rotary Club of Hunterston was delighted to present the Citizen of the Year Award 2015 to Kay Hall at their club meeting on Wednesday, April 6 in Seamill Hydro in front of members and friends.

After an excellent buffet meal, community convenor Jim Jackson introduced Kay as the winner and explained the difficult choice his committee had in choosing a winner among the five excellent nominees.

He then introduced Stephen Brown, who had proposed Kay, and asked him to say a few words about why he had nominated her.

Stephen explained that Kay has been involved with the Community Initiative and Craft Town from the start, but last year in particular, she was instrumental in West Kilbride winning the small town section of Britain’s Great High Street Award.

Club President David Ennis then presented Kay with a framed certificate and a cheque for £100 to WK Community Initiative and thanked her for her many years of volunteer work for the village.

Kay replied thanking all involved, but particularly her volunteer colleagues in the Community Initiative, without whom West Kilbride would not have won the Great High Street Award and she would not have won Citizen of the Year.

She finished with a plea to all local residents to buy from the village shops if they possibly can, or they may see some close in the near future.
