THERE was early morning election fall out after claims from the local MP that Labour were trying to sabotage the SNP vote.

Patricia Gibson MP, wife of MSP Kenny, posted reports on Facebook and Twitter of Labour chapping doors and telling voters they were not allowed to give both votes to the SNP.

The MP said: “At 7am a Kilbirnie voter informed one of the returning officer’s staff and the SNP member at the door of the polling place that this had happened. He was urged to report it to the police or the Electoral Commission.”

But Labour candidate Johanna Baxter said: “The claims by Patricia Gibson are completely untrue. No Labour activist said any such a thing. It looks like a malicious attempt to smear the Labour Party.”

Police confirmed they had received no complaints.
