THIS mess was left behind at Dubbs Road, Kilwinning, at around 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

But thanks to an eagle-eyed cyclist, who witnessed the driver of a white van disposing of the rubbish, the council and police were both notified immediately.

Now the site has been cleared and the Police are chasing up the culprit after being handed his vehicle’s registration by the member of the public.

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Place, visited the site before the clear-up operation.

He said: “Fly-tipping is something I absolutely deplore. My constituents feel exactly the same way as it’s the subject they bring up most often.

“The audacity of those doing it is staggering and they need to be caught and punished.

“I was delighted that we and the police were tipped off by the public about the incident at Dubbs Road. I would urge others to do likewise if they see this happening.

“As a council we are taking action - we are committed to making a difference. We’ve appointed a new Fly-Tipping officer to work with our enforcement team and are serious about this issue. The team are working tirelessly and are already making a real impact.

“We have an excellent relationship with our partners at Police Scotland and will continue to work closely with them.”

The council’s new fly-tipping officer, Jim Heaney, said: “It’s early days but we are getting results. We are trying to keep North Ayrshire a clean and attractive place for the residents and visitors.”
