CUNNINGHAME North MSP Kenneth Gibson was last week unsuccessful in his attempt to become one of two Deputy Presiding Officers at the Scottish Parliament.

In a vote, which took place on May 12, Mr Gibson was twice eliminated as his two colleagues, Linda Fabiani and Christine Grahame, were chosen to deputise to Labour’s Ken MacIntosh.

The vote involved Ms Fabiani and Ms Grahame from the SNP, Margaret Mitchell from the Conservatives and Kenny Gibson, who won the Cunninghame North Constituency in the elections held earlier this month with over 50 per cent of the vote.

After the first round of voting, Kenneth Gibson received 14 votes and was eliminated as voting to a third round where Linda Fabiani was elected as the first deputy.

In the second vote, Kenny Gibson was again knocked out at the first stage before Christine Grahame was elected meaning the SNP hold both Deputy posts.

Mr Gibson said of the result: “I stood but was not elected.”
