THE much celebrated Burns Mural at Ardeer Beach has been given an unsightly facelift – and the son of the man who originally painted it has expressed his anger at the vandalism.

First painted 20 years ago, the mural was the brainchild of Ardeer stalwart Gavin McInnes who sadly passed away earlier this year.

His son, also named Gavin, is up in arms about the situation saying that his ‘father’s legacy’ has been spoiled.

Gavin told the Herald: “This is not the first time a moron has tried to deface the mural.

“Last year a guy parked his car in it to take pictures to sell on Gumtree.

“He was not from Ardeer but Stewarton. I emailed Police Scotland as usual there was no response.

“This caused deep public outrage within the community. The mural is something everyone is proud of. ”

The facelift was carried out by popular graffiti artist Rogue-One, real name Bobby McNamara, in September of last year.

Gavin added: “It actually makes me sick as my father was too ill to make it down the beach to see the rejuvenated painting done by Bobby McNamara AKA Rogue-One. He did see photos of it and it made him proud.

“It’s a sad reflection on the individual who did this, they not only spoilt a masterpiece but also my father’s legacy.”

Rogue One has confirmed to the Herald he has been commissoned to sort the mural.

Police Scotland have said that they have not received any complaints in relation to the mural.
