WEST Kilbride Primary pupil Leah Anderson had a whopping 12 inches cut off her hair and raised £650 for the Little Princess Trust – £100 of which came from a mystery anonymous donor.

The 10-year-old had her long locks chopped on May 7 in support of children suffering from hair loss.

Leah hoped to raise about £350 but following the Herald’s recent report about her charity haircut, she almost doubled that amount.

Leah’s mum Debbie Anderson told the Herald: “She’s very proud of herself and we’re all very proud of her.

“She’s done really well. We’re really thankful to everyone that contributed.

“After the article appeared in the Herald, lots of people donated. Someone from Dalry donated £100 and we don’t know who it was but we’re so thankful to them.”

Leah had planned to have 10 inches chopped off her long locks but after arriving at Abundance Hair and Beauty in Saltcoats for her charity challenge, she decided to get an extra two inches cut.

The hair will now be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Debbie said: “It was originally meant to be about 10 inches but on the day when the hairdresser measured it all out, she decided she wanted it even shorter.

“Leah absolutely loves her short hair. It’s taken me a bit of getting used to but she’s really happy.

“She’s quite a sporty wee thing so it’s practical to have her hair short. And I suppose it saves a lot of time and arguments over the brush in the mornings as well!

“She says she wants to do it again when it grows back.”
