THE Royal British Legion (RBL) Scotland is looking for service personnel past and present to join a new social group for the Three Towns.

Veterans, members of the armed forces, honorary RBL members, and their families are all invited to a social event at the Grant Arms in Stevenston on Friday evening.

It is hoped that the social meeting will become a regular event and revive feelings of camaraderie that ex-military personnel might miss.

Paul Swainson from the Royal British Legion said: “We’re getting a bit older with age and because we’re getting older there are less and less members.

“Most people when they think of veterans, they think of the First and Second World Wars but there have been lots of more recent conflicts and we want to reach out to younger people who might not realise that we are here.

“We’re organising a social event this Friday for service people, veterans and their spouses and for the general public who are honorary members of the RBL, such as the RNLI.

“We want to see if we can get a regular association going so that service personnel and veterans can feel that they can unwind and chat to people who have the same ideas in life. We hope to build up an association and to revive old comradeship by getting them to come together and, as they get older, they can build up a relationship with like-minded people.

“They might want to come along and regain that old camaraderie that they might no longer have.”

The meeting is in the Grant Arms in Stevenston on Friday, May 20 from 6.30/7pm onwards. Tea and coffee provided.
