NORTH Ayrshire Council has shelled out more than £30,000 on new speed bumps, less than a year after removing similar speed restriction measures.

Last year, we reported that the speed bumps on Dalry Road and Stanley Road were being removed. At that time, the council said that they would be replacing the ones on Stanley Road but not those on Dalry Road.

Now they have backtracked and revealed they are also installing another six speed bumps on the service road which runs parallel with Dalry Road and runs from the roundabout near to St Peter’s Primary to Park Church on Stanley Road.

Last year, a council spokesperson said: “The speed bumps on Stanley Road and Dalry Road have been removed as they were in a poor condition.

“Replacement speed bumps will be installed on Stanley Road in October.

“However, after reviewing the situation at Dalry Road, a decision has been made not to replace the speed bumps at this location as there are already sufficient speed reduction systems in place – with chicanes and a mini roundabout.”

The replacement speed bumps which the council said would be installed in October are now being installed, almost eight months later causing delays to drivers due to traffic lights being in place whilst the work is being carried out.

The works are set to be completed by today (Thursday).

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The speed bumps being installed on Stanley Road and Dalry Road are replacing ones we removed last year due to their poor condition.

“Two speed bumps had also previously been removed from Dalry Road to assess whether this would take traffic away from the Dalry Road Service Road. But a traffic assessment showed this had minimal impact.

“Our priority is the safety of our road users so we agreed to re-install the two speed bumps, along with another six on the Service Road.

“In total, 14 speed bumps are being installed at a cost of £32,000.”
