THREE Towns model Winston Tifferson has won the title of Folic Acid Man.

He will now be the face of a Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus (SBH) Scotland campaign to promote taking folic acid before conception.

The 24-year-old was announced as the new face of the Are You Getting Enough? campaign at the SBH Scotland annual Ladies Lunch on Sunday, June 5.

Winston, a duty manager at Si! in Irvine, told the Herald: “It’s fantastic to be chosen to front such a good cause.

“It’s brilliant. I didn’t expect my name to be announced because I was the shortest of the three finalists!

“I thought it looked really funny with us standing together because they were so much taller.

“They were all good looking guys as well so I didn’t expect this outcome at all.

“The attention has been overwhelming but brilliant – I love it!

“Some of my friends are quite surprised.

“I’m still close to some of some of my old teachers at Ardrossan Academy and some of them have been congratulating me on it.”

The Are You Getting Enough? campaign was first launched by SBH Scotland in 2013. It encourages women who are sexually active and of child bearing age to take a daily folic acid supplement to help reduce the chance of Neural Tube Defects (NTDs), such as spina bifida.

As Folic Acid Man, Winston will work with the charity to lead the campaign forward for the next 12 months.

He also wins a modelling contract with All Talent Agency, a photoshoot with an award winning photographer, £100 Slater Menswear vouchers, one month Nuffield Health gym membership, two personal training sessions, and a haircut and style at Rainbow Rooms International.

Winston said: “We start the planning of the campaign in the next month

“I’m going to get my drawing board out and come up with some ideas.

“I don’t know if they’ll take my ideas into consideration though but I’ll give it a try!”

Clare Cogan Turner, SBH Scotland communications manager and Folic Acid Man judge, said: “We’re so excited to announce Winston as our new Folic Acid Man.

“He showed great passion to our cause and was charming, articulate and embodied all the attributes we wanted in our poster boy.

“Although the ladies all had fun helping us choose the winner, this is a serious campaign where we hope to remind women of the importance of taking folic acid before they conceive to help reduce the incidence of spina bifida.”

Congratulations to Winston from all at the Herald.
