A SALTCOATS volunteer has been rewarded for her years of tireless work with the RNLI.

And her family have praised the work that she has done for various organisations over the years.

Sheila Chalmers, 75, was recently presented with the award (pictured) but her daughter Margaret said she was very humble about it all and didn’t even say to her family about the recognition.

Sheila, who has also worked for years coaching local youngsters at 10-pin bowling and is the chair of Cunninghame Flower Club, has raised somewhere in the region of £50-60,000 for the RNLI in the last 10 years.

The Saltcoats stalwart, who has six girls, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, shows no signs of stopping.

Her daughter Margaret said: “We are so proud. She doesn’t get the recognition she deserves but from the playgroup, the Brownies and other groups, she has always been very keen to help everyone.”

The long term member of the RSPB received her award for 25 years service with the RNLI in Perth last Thursday.
