AN ARDROSSAN Academy pupil has recently taken part in the Takeover Programme of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO).

The project allows young people to have two days of work experience with the Orchestra in various different departments, including marketing, performing and development.

Rebecca Sharp, aged 16, who has had a keen interest in music from a young age, wanted to gain real experience in the music industry.

Already an enthusiastic clarinetist and singer, when her music teacher informed her about the RSNO Takeover, she jumped at the chance to spend two packed days with the professional orchestra and experienced head of departments.

She is currently studying Advanced Higher Music and preparing to sit her Grade 8 clarinet exam.

Rebecca has been playing clarinet since the age of twelve and claims to have sung before she learned to speak.

The RSNO’s Head of Development, Sarah Modley described the scheme as: “A great opportunity for young people to learn about all aspects of orchestral management.”

She also described this year’s participants as “enthusiastic teenagers with great ideas.”

Rebecca said: “I’ve enjoyed learning about the backstage components that are vital to the smooth running of world-class orchestral performances.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to meet new people who share the same interests as me and to gain work experience from a very positive working environment.

“I would thoroughly recommend the scheme.”

The final concert was held for family and friends at the RSNO’s new auditorium at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday, June 14.
