ARRAN has been named the number one in a list rating hotels on European Islands by hotel website Trivago.

In a fantastic result for the island, Arran has beaten many exotic locations in Europe mainly from Greece to be named the best for hotels on European Islands.

Arran scored an average rating of 88.16 to put the island top of the table with only Jersey and Guernsey being named as other locations from around the British Isles.

The isle of Arran is traditionally well praised in regards for their homely atmosphere, great food and stunning surroundings which have obviously put the island top of tree.

Denise Bartlett of Communications UK & Ireland said: “It is great to see the Isle of Arran soar to the top of our annual Island Ranking, which previously only included Mediterranean destinations and has been extended for the first time this year to cover all of Europe.”

Council leader Willie Gibson said: “Arran has outstanding natural beauty so it’s fantastic to hear that the visitor experience is enhanced with the top-class accommodation on the island".

The Council - and partners at the Scottish Government and Highlands and Islands Enterprise - are currently investing £18million on the Brodick Harbour Development which is expected deliver around £39.6million of additional business and tourism income to the Arran economy over 25 years.

“We are also investing millions in local roads and are currently drawing up an action plan for economic development to ensure Arran gets the best from a range of recent business announcements

“With the introduction of the Road Equivalent Tariff, more and more people are visiting the island and we expect that to continue this summer and beyond.

“That is an amazing opportunity for us all and we are doing everything to capitalise on this.

“It’s really heartening to hear this latest news. Not only do we have amazing places to visit but also amazing places to stay.

“To finish top, ahead of all these warm-island destinations, is another real feather in the cap for everyone in Arran. Well done to all the hoteliers for delivering a brilliant service.”
