AYRSHIRE College have appointed a new campus liaison officer.

PC Kimberley Bradford has been appointed to the role, which will cover the campuses at Kilwinning, Ayr and Kilmarnock, with the aim of providing guidance and support to students and staff.

PC Bradford takes over from PC Lisa Thomson, who had been in the job since October 2014.

The role involves delivering workshops, focusing on areas of concern to communities, including topics like alcohol, drugs, domestic abuse, hate crime, personal safety and social media.

PC Bradford said: “I spoke to Lisa about the role before I applied for it and she was really enthusiastic, so I want to carry on her good work. Students can come to me about anything.

“Whether it’s cyber bullying on social media or just general guidance about joining Police Scotland or being a witness at court.”

PC Bradford has been in the police force for over a decade, starting in Govan where she worked for four years.

After that, she went into a support services role of the Mountie branch, working with horses for five years covering the whole of Scotland. Her last role involved training probationers and special constables in Kilmarnock.

She added: “I applied for the position because it was right up my street. I feel like I’ve got the right dynamic to get involved with the students.

“I’m an outgoing person and I want to break down barriers that young people have with police – mainly the notion that the police are unapproachable. It’s going to be a really rewarding job.”

Based within the Student Services departments, PC Bradford can also be contacted on kimberley.bradford@ayrshire.ac.uk or at the campuses.
