PEOPLE in Ayrshire are being urged to consider joining the NHS Organ Donor Register as a bold new campaign gets underway.

The ‘We Need Everybody’ campaign shows people of all ages, shapes, sizes and ethnicities baring almost all to highlight that anyone can be an organ donor.

The call has been issued as latest figures reveal that every day in the UK, someone dies waiting on an organ transplant

Latest figures highlight there are 540 people in Scotland waiting on a life-saving transplant.

Currently, 37.5 per cent of people living in the NHS Ayrshire and Arran area are on the NHS Organ Donor Register - however the more people that join, the more lives that can be saved.

William Murray, Specialist Nurse, Organ Donation for NHS Ayrshire & Arran said: “More than

6,500 Ayrshire and Arran residents made an organ donation decision using the donor register in the last year, which is around two per cent of the population.

“We would ask everyone to think seriously about their own decision and to discuss organ donation openly with their family and friends.”
