A DOTING boyfriend made his girlfriend’s dreams come true this week - by proposing to her seconds after she got to meet her idols.

Saltcoats man Chris Gough asked long-term girlfriend Laura Campbell to marry him when they met Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro - a band she has loved since she was 15 - last Wednesday night.

Chris, 31, popped the question to Laura, 30, at the launch of the band’s new album at HMV in Argyle Street, Glasgow.

The couple, who have known each other for over 20 years and have been together for seven years, were among the 250 lucky fans who watched the band performing an intimate acoustic set to promote new album Ellipsis.

Following the short set, the fans queued to get their albums signed by singer and guitarist Simon Neil, bassist James Johnston and drummer Ben Johnston.

And while Laura was gripped by the euphoria of meeting her favourite band, who formed in Kilmarnock, Chris thought there was no better time to get down on one knee.

He got the band to write on the album sleeve of the vinyl version of their new album: “Will you marry Chris?”

And a delighted Laura, who has daughters Penny, two, and Lyla, eight-weeks, with Chris, said yes.

Speaking afterwards, the happy couple, revealed they were both delighted.

A relieved Chris, a stock controller with WH Malcolm, said: “I had arranged it through a friend who knows the band to go up first to get my vinyl signed and asked them to sign it saying, ‘Will you marry Chris?’

“Laura then went up after me and I got down on one knee after she got her CD signed.

“I’m glad it all worked out - it couldn’t have gone better.

“I was nervous before it but absolutely delighted that she said yes.

“I knew it was the perfect opportunity to do the deed when she was already on a high from meeting her idols.

“She was bound to agree to marry me!”

A delighted Laura, a Housing Assistant with North Ayrshire Council, said: “It’s not every day you meet your idols and get a fancy ring!

“It’s a pity it wasn’t [Biffy Clyro singer] Simon on bended knee but I got the next best thing!

“I was shocked but delighted that Christopher asked and obviously I said yes!

“It was amazing to get engaged in front of my favourite band who are amazing and who have an amazing new album out!

“I can’t wait to get married!

“Christopher did good, it was the best day!”

The former St Peter’s Primary and St Andrew’s Academy pupils have yet to set a date for their wedding. But the couple revealed they plan to tie the knot within the next year.
