A MAN who drunkenly attacked two people in Stevenston and Irvine on separate occasions has dodged a jail term.

Campbell Lebeau committed the assaults in December last year and February this year.

He was also charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath on April 2.
At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week, it was revealed that on December 5, witnesses at an address in Irvine’s Carron Place heard a knock at the door and found Lebeau waiting.

The 35-year-old from Irvine was known as a friend of a friend and asked if he could come in because it was raining.

They agreed but quickly realised he was heavily intoxicated and argumentative.

He repeatedly called the people in the house “toerags”. Lebeau was warned about his behaviour but quickly leapt forward and grabbed the male complainer by the throat.

The pair rolled around the living room before Lebeau pinned the man onto the couch.

Lebeau began repeatedly pulling his hand back in a punching motion before being pulled away but continued to throw punches.

On February 3, Lebeau was at a female friend’s address in Gilmour Gardens, Stevenston, when he acted abusively, slapping her across the face.

Lebeau was taken to Saltcoats Police Office and when being cautioned and charged he replied: “What a f*****g joke by the way.”

Later police caught up with Lebeau about an allegation of driving under the influence in Gladstone Road, Saltcoats. He refused to provide a specimen of breath.

Lebeau admitted the offences and was handed a three-month tagging order, 180 hours of unpaid work, one year of supervision, disqualified from driving for three years and ordered to undertake alcohol treatment.
