SCOTTISH Parliament officials have been grilled over high speed internet claims for North Ayrshire.

Jamie Greene, the Member for West Scotland who is also the Scottish Conservative spokesman on this issue, posed the question in a recent formal Parliamentary Committee in which Cabinet Minister Ewing, was hauled in to answer questions.

Speaking at the first meeting of the Rural Economy and Connectivity committee, Mr Greene grilled the Minister on how confident he was that the government would meet its target of 95 per cent of premises in Scotland being connected by superfast internet by 2018.

He was told the government was confident in its ability to do so, but the Tory MSP questioned just ‘how fast will this internet actually be?’.

Mr Greene added: “I live in a rural part of North Ayrshire where I enjoy speeds of around 1Mgb per second. Yet I am listed as being on the receiving end of this lucky group of people to be connected to the so called high speed grid. Most of my neighbours can barely download an email.

“Half good is not good enough.”
