A KILWINNING cop will prove he’s a diehard fan of his son’s football team - by having his beard coloured blue!

Detective Inspector Alan McAlpine has vowed to have his beard dyed to support eldest son Adam, 13, and the KSC Barca Bulls 2003s when they travel to Norway to play in a prestigious tournament.

And the kind-hearted dad-of-four also hopes his facial foolery will raise hundreds for Save the Children.

KSC Barca Bulls will play in the Oslo International Cup this August.

And Alan, 46, was inspired to raise money for children who aren’t fortunate enough to travel and experience such an opportunity.

But Alan’s son’s aren’t exactly thrilled of the prospect of having a blue-bearded dad!

Speaking ahead of his date with the hair dye, Alan said: “My boy plays with the KSC Barca Bulls and they’ll be heading to Oslo for a tournament.

“I kept winding him (Adam) up by saying that I was going to get it dyed blue to support them.

“My boys kept telling me that I would embarrass them but I thought ‘why not?’

“I’m on holiday so I’ll be able to do it and get rid of it before I go back to work.”

The Nursery Wynd man added: “A lot of people get their head shaved and things like that but I thought this would be something different.

“There’s a lot of kids who won’t get a chance to experience the things that my boys have had.

“If I could raise even £250 that would be great, I’ve been harassing folk at my work non-stop!”

Alan will be having his beard dyed this Thursday, July 28. See next week’s Herald to see how it turned out.
