An elderly man had money stolen from his car while parked New Street in Stevenston.

The 77-year-old had parked and visited a local business at around 9.10am on Monday, August 1. On returning to the vehicle the victim was approached by an unknown man who engaged him in conversation before making off. The pensioner thereafter discovered that a three figure sum of money had been stolen from the car.

Police are keen to speak with the man who is described as being around 25 to 35 years old, slim build, roughly 6 foot in height and wearing a light coloured long sleeve top and jeans.

A police spokesperson said: “The behaviour of this man is totally unacceptable and I would like to urge anyone within the local community who may have witnessed the incident or know the man responsible to contact us. There may be other people who were approached by this man who can assist us in identifying him.”
