TWO Saltcoats men are set to battle the famous West Highland Way and raise money for two charities close to their hearts.

Andy Payton and Damon Fixter will set out on September 10 to and hope to cover the 96-miles in a week, stopping to do a bit of fishing along the way.

The duo will be raising cash for the Beatson in Glasgow and also for Glasgow Children’s Hospital and have set a target of £1,000.

The Beatson is currently treating Andy’s wife for a brain tumour and the Children’s Hospital performed surgery on his son Eoighan, a pupil at Mayfield Primary and Damon's mum was also treated at the Beatson so both men are keen to give as much back as possible.

Andy said: “We are aiming at £1,000 so we can give £500 to each charity.”
